                                     Family Cancer Research Memorial

Dear friends & family:

Bob Houle & I have been discussing a project that would foster the memory of two persons that we, and much of the family, loved dearly, Anne Marie Bessette and Joan Houle, both of whom have passed away. Anne died suddenly in 1972 from a cerebral aneurysm and Joan in 2003 after  suffering the agony inflicted by asbestos related poisoning from many years earlier.
While there are a multitude of areas deserving funding we have selected cancer funding because this is one area that has directly afflicted members of all our families.  We have selected the Dana Farber Cancer Institute because of their extensive efforts in this area of medical research. They will accept memorial donations to the:

                             “Anne Marie Bessette and Joan Houle Memorial for Cancer Research ”.

We realize that each of us is regularly bombarded with requests to support an ever increasing multitude of causes. We all have limited resources to donate to these causes, many of which are worthwhile. But in allocating these limited resources, it would be nice to at the same time honor the memory of two persons that were so important to us.

Some innovative ways to help raise funds while honoring people we love have already been done by family members and more are contemplated.. Here are some examples:

-Recently my grand daughter Casey ran a marathon and solicited donations for her Running Coach “Fund for Malignant Thymona”.

-Laurie Isham, successfully organized two different fund raising events including a Buddy Run which resulted in several thousands of dollars for research.

-I will be offering Genealogy DVD’s at no cost to the recipients but will request that they make a donation to the memorial fund if they are pleased with the product.

So don’t be reluctant. If you have the inclination to do something, like take the lead in a particular project, you are encouraged to do so. If not, any contribution will be appreciated.
