Recently Bob Houle and I spent a little time in Canada visiting with the Houles
in Canada and also checking out a number of locales important to our
Bessette-Houle ancestors. I took a number of photos during the trip with which I
have created a new Canada Album including photos from the trip, plus some that I
extracted from the internet and a number of early family pictures from my
archives. I have also written what I call “A Pictorial Narrative of our
Bessette-Houle Canadian Heritage” in which I track the movements of our
ancestors including a number of photos that embellish the story. Check out both
the album and narrative on the web site. I think you will find it most
interesting.
By way of information, I have also been able to confirm that Onesime Houle was
born and baptized in St. Germain de Grantham rather than Nicolet as many have
believed. I also believe that Edouard, Onesime’s father, was born in St. Germain
and I expect to get confirmation on this shortly. The fact is that Jean Baptiste
Houle (Edouard’s father) was farming in St. Germain as early as 1831 and that he
married Sophie Dubois in 1834 and is confirmed as living there many years beyond
that, by the property tax roles and census reports of St. Germain.
